Beginner's Guide

Some of you may have encountered issues during the download or installation process. In order to help you we have complied this FAQ with steps for resolving the most common issues. Please note that these are solutions for the most common issues and may not cover all situations. Please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support if you have any other issues or questions.

Download Issues

1. Downloaded NaNBytes of NaNBytes (NaN %)

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Run AoW Downloader as an Administrator
(To do so please select the file icon, click the right mouse button, select “Run as Administrator” and start.)
- Do not download the game in a “Windows” folder as: Program Files - Program Files x86 - Windows)

2. Can’t download from Webzen website

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Update your browser to the latest verion
- Update Flash Player
- Update Java
- Optional: Use Internet Explorer

3. Sorry, we're experiencing difficulties connecting you to our server, please try again later.

This error may appear when you try to download the game from Webzen website.

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please try again later, there may be high traffic at this time.


Installation Issues

4. Cab File error

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Go to the folder you downloaded the game to and run the installer manually as an Administrator
(To do so please select the file icon, click the right mouse button, select “Run as Administrator” and start.)
Either: data1_AgeofWulin_Setup_DE.exe
or data1_AgeofWulin_Setup_FR.exe
or data1_AgeofWulin_Setup_EN.exe
- Do not use any third party file management systems (Such as SpeedCommander).
- Do not change the destination folder before the download.

5. Installer - Lua Error

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please be sure that you computer is set to the correct language. The language set up in your computer should be the same as the game client you are installing.

6. Game does not launch after update. "FxGameLogic.dll: sorry, this application cannot run under a virtual machine" error.

If you get the following error or and error related to a virtual machine:

Issue seems to be related to having the antivirus program "BitDefender Antivirus" installed on the machine.

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Open the antivirus program (bottom right corner, near the clock), click on the cog-wheel near the "ANTIVIRUS" panel (middle-left part of the screen), and turn the Active Virus Control "OFF" (there's a blue switch on the right).


7. Game version is not updating

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please open your Age of Wulin installation folder and manually start Fxlaunch.exe in Administrator mode.

8. Client start > "Servers are currently in maintenance"

If you see the server status as “In Maintenance” this means you can’t make a network connection to the server ports. There are several possible reasons for this:

  • You are living in a country which is IP blocked
  • Local PC firewall blocking outbound traffic
  • ISP firewall blocking outbound traffic
  • University/school firewall blocking outbound traffic
  • ISP Routing issue blocking outbound traffic
  • Server is under maintenance

9. Wrong Client Version

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Remove US version of the game from your computer.
- Close all your background applications.
- Uninstall, reboot and reinstall the game


10. Script Error - Not enough video memory

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please be sure that all your graphic drivers are up to date.
- Update/reinstall Microsoft doNet frame work.


11. Unable to start AoW on Windows 8 - nothing happens

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
The issue is caused by DEP (Data Exception Prevention) which is the W8 security system that replaced UAC.
You have to add Age of Wulin and the Age of Wulin launcher to the DEP exception list.
Control Panel -> System and Security -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced -> Performance -- Sub-field settings

Browse to the installation:
Add the Fxupdate.exe file that you find in the folders: AoW > Updater_ and Update as well as the fxlaunch.exe file from AoW main folder.

12. Don’t Speed Up!

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please close all your background applications and restart the game.

13. Missing Text - In-game

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please be sure that your graphic drivers are up to date.
- Check if your fonts are not corrupted using method 1 or 2:

Method 1:
To restore the fonts to default and check whether the issue is resolved, follow the steps outlined below.
a. Open Fonts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Fonts.
b. In the left pane, click Font settings.
c. Click Restore default font settings.
Note:If you cannot see Appearance and Personalization in the Control Panel then change the ‘View by’ to ‘Category’

Method 2:
You may run a SFC (System File Checker) scan. This scans for any integrity violation. If it finds any corrupted system files, it tries to replace the files.
If the System File Checker tool cannot repair a file, follow the steps to manually repair the file linked below.

14. Can't start Launcher / FxUpdate.exe failed to start

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please update Internet Explorer and reset security settings to default.
- Update Flash Player.

15. AVG - flagged as Trojan/Virus

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Turn off AVG and put the game on the “whitelist”.

16. Blue Screen

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Check that your graphic card and motherboard drivers are up to date.
- Broken hardware might be the cause.

17. login_errcode_3

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please change your password. It seems that the game is not recocnizing special characters like “@”.

18. Game crashes and multiple error reports in windows system.info file of application closing due to d3d11.dll

Suggested troubleshooting steps:
- Please reinstall Directx11 using the following link:

If that does not solve the issue, you might have to reinstall the whole Windows OS.
